Aerin Alexander

Aerin Alexander is a movement educator, dancer, author and international workshop leader. She has taught exercise for regaining vitality and health for more than 30 years, and holds a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from California State University Northridge, as well as several certifications in somatic education, including Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (GCFP).

Through the years in her work, Aerin has witnessed people shift from chronic pain, stiffness, resentment and fear, “to flexible and loving mind-bodies. We can always recuperate our vitality and youth, and our daring for life at any age” she says. “It is our birthright.”

Aerin teaches classes and workshops at Tilo Medical & Acupuncture, which she directs with her husband Dr. Miles Reid. Together, Aerin and Miles also founded Being Energy® to expand their teaching to a global audience, leading online classes and workshops and traveling around the world to meet with enthusiastic audiences. Aerin is also the co-author of Blooming Together, a book and audio program for a healthy, joyful pregnancy and birth.

In all that she does, Aerin embraces a global perspective and the connection between science and spirituality. Her knowledge is rooted in what she has learned in life, in her rigorous academic training and as a student of Carlos Castaneda.

Aerin met Carlos Castaneda in 1994. She felt an immediate affinity and became his direct apprentice, intensively studying the practices and knowledge of the seers of ancient Mexico. This expanded her understanding of human movement. She discovered that movement offers a path for increasing one’s own awareness and consciousness, bridging the gap between mind-body and soul—the known and unknown, the seen and the unseen parts of oneself.

Aerin had her attention directed to movement at the early age of eight, when she became bed-ridden with rheumatic fever. To heal and regain her strength, she turned to movement, and out of this grew her life’s work.

It was her time with Castaneda, though, that catapulted her understanding of movement, of energy and of life, to a new level. She was able to finally heal her body, and gained knowledge of what directed intention can accomplish in both body and mind.

“Castaneda guided me to gather energy through the practice of movements and dietary choices, to suspend my negative self-talk and long-term negative habits. He inspired and supported me to educate my mind with science and literature. And he taught me to shift my center of perception to my heart,” says Aerin.

“I first learned to love the trees at his house. For four years, I had the task of pruning and nurturing his trees. This instilled in me a love of nature, and by learning to love nature, I learned to love others and myself.”

In 1997, Nuri Alexander, Castaneda’s only daughter and descendant, adopted Aerin as her daughter on the same day that Castaneda adopted Nuri. As Nuri’s daughter, Aerin inherited her name, her books and, most importantly, her love for the world.

This love permeates Being Energy, and Aerin’s other work in the world. It is what informs her activity in building community, empowering people through education and tools that awaken one's life purpose and vitality, and working with other leaders for the benefit of all.

Aerin is currently working on her second master’s degree, this time in spiritual psychology at the University of Santa Monica. She envisions the unfolding of a greater understanding of movement, vitality and spirituality.

“I believe in the indescribable joy that emerges when our bodies move freely without effort or restrictions,” she says. “Movement fluidity is accompanied by mind fluidity. I want to help create a new syntax for enhanced functionality from which our vitality and potential unfold with ease and joy.”

Frank Titus, B.S., T.M.T. HTMC Director

Frank Titus is the founder of Titus Motion Therapy (TMT), a long-term solution that treats the causes of chronic pain and a proven method for eliminating pain. He is a leading exercise therapist and pain management expert, and sees clients at Tilo Medical & Acupuncture in Los Angeles and at The Health Through Motion Center (HTMC) in Santa Monica, as well as around the world via Skype.

Upon graduating with a B.S. n Exercise Physiology from Indiana State University in 1992, Frank worked as Assistant Director at The Egoscue Method Clinic in San Diego, where he recognized that motion and exercise therapy modalities had higher success rates and longer-term benefits. He then abandoned plans to continue on in physical therapy or chiropractic and, instead, became actively involved in popularizing spine and body alignment as the most effective way of eliminating pain.

In 1995, Frank founded Titus Motion Therapy—using his own improved technique—and later went on to become the Founder and Director of the Health Through Motion Center in Santa Monica, California. He has successfully treated clients, aged 8 to 80, from all walks of life, including yoga teachers, musicians, doctors and athletes, such as Olympians, PGA, NFL and NBA players. Additionally, he has conducted workshops throughout the country educating people on the ability to heal through movement. Frank has over 18 years of experience in helping people eliminate back pain.

Miles Reid, M.D., L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.

Dr. Miles Reid is an integrative medicine practitioner and mind-body educator, as well as a National Diplomate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology.

Dr. Reid earned his medical degree in Argentina in 1993 (University of Buenos Aires Medical School—summa cum laude graduate), followed by a master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine with highest honors from Yo San University in Marina del Rey, California, in 2001.

Together with his wife, Aerin Alexander, he directs Tilo Medical & Acupuncture. The two also co-founded Being Energy®, an international education program of self-awareness intended to expand functionality and perceptual possibilities through the practices of movement, meditation and creative thinking.

Dr. Reid teaches, lectures and provides clinical consultations around the world. In fact, practicing medicine is in his bones. He comes from a family tradition of physicians, and is passionate about understanding the inner workings of the human body and spirit. He has studied alternative and complimentary healing practices since he was an intern in medical school.

A central part of Dr. Reid's philosophy of life is the belief that we are an integral part of the world around us, of nature. As such, when we connect with the experience being a part of that larger picture, it can bring out the best in us. Moved by this core feeling, Dr. Reid took a two-year sabbatical to travel around the world when we was in his 20’s, during which he visited over 40 countries and immersed himself in their cultures as well as spending time in their national parks.

This experience was formative, and among other things, instilled in Dr. Reid a keen interest in the shamanistic traditions of ancient Mexico. He met and trained for a decade with Dr. Carlos Castaneda. As one of Castaneda’s few direct students, Dr. Reid rigorously studied the practices and knowledge of the sages of ancient Mexico, including the study and modern adaptation of secret ancient movements and breathing techniques that restore the body’s vitality and capacity to heal.

Castaneda, when they first met, said that Dr. Reid would one day help bridge the gap between modern science and shamanism. This bridging is one of the foundational principles of Being Energy®.

Castaneda taught me discipline, elegance and what it means to give one’s best, and then some more,” says Miles. “He transformed my conception of diet and thought beyond what I‘d been taught in medical school; he helped me to understand that the food we eat and the thoughts we have deeply affect our energy, our minds and our lives.”

Dr. Reid has an unbending commitment to share his knowledge with his patients and students, through consultations, workshops and online classes, and to contribute to raising human consciousness so that every person can reach their full potential.
